Lesson Highlights

  • The general written test will be the first FAA test you take.
  • It's recommend to obtain both the Airframe and Powerplant ratings (A&P) instead of just one or the other.
  • Documented experience that can be used to get an A&P include: Aviation Related Course Certificates, DD Form 214 (Military), signed by certified A&P OJT logs, signed statement from employer
  • If getting A&P in the field. We recommend getting all experience first (A&P Experience Regulation 65.77). Then study to take all general, airframe, and powerplant tests.
  • If getting A&P in the field. We recommend studying for all testing in 5 phases. This allows you to focus study on one phase at a time.
  • All A&P written test will be completed on the computer at a designated testing facility. Use the link below to find the closest testing facility to your location.
  • All Oral and Practical testing will be completed with a Designated Maintenance Examiner. Call the DME prior to testing to discuss testing process.
  • With all testing you'll only be asked a portion of test material. You'll need to know all the material because you won't know what portions will be on the tests.
